EIAR

Role within PROMISE:

The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) will be responsible for conducting field trials, collecting and analyzing soils from different agro-ecological zones in Ethiopia, developing high-thoughput bioassays for activity screening and providing expertise on sorghum and Striga germplasm. The activities in Ethiopia will be led by EIAR at the Holetta Research Centre.The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) is the local partner in this program. The baseline activities in Ethiopia will be led by EIAR at the Holetta Research Centre.

Taye Tessema, National Project Coordinator
Taye is the local contact in Ethiopia and specialized in Weed Management and Biological Control.

Getahun Mitiku - PhD
Getahun is working on mapping of the Striga seedbank in Ethiopian soils and identification of (a)biotic factors associated with Striga suppressiveness

Sewunet Abera - PhD
Sewunet is working on the impact of Striga on the composition and activity of the sorghum root microbiome
